MUMZY STRANGER TRACKS FEATURE ON BOLLYWOOD ALBUM

25-year-old urban desi artist Mumzy Stranger has been making considerable progress in his career this year after releasing his own solo material, as well as collaborating with other artists. Now the aspiring star from East London is hoping to make waves in the world of Bollywood after two of his tracks were chosen to feature on The Streets of Bollywood 3 record.

Rishi Rich has long championed the work of Mumzy Stranger and has been an important influence in his career so far. Not surprisingly Rishi Rich has produced the two tracks for the Bollywood album namely, It Can Only Be Love, and City Guy. It seems that first single is already proving popular with the music loving public with It Can Only Be Love already appearing in the charts.

Earlier this year Mumzy invited up and coming bhangra star H-Dhami to collaborate on his debut single, One More Dance, which was produced again by Rishi Rich and went on to establish him as a top new act.

Now Mumzy Stranger is hoping to build on his strong start in the music industry, and getting featured on an album such as The Streets of Bollywood 3 is a great way of opening Mumzy up to a whole new audience and further raising his profile.

Indian Pop Becomes Mainstream

Posted by admin On December - 22 - 2009

Here is a great article I found in the Metro Newspaper. Makes me really proud to be Desi, we are hitting up the Western world like none other. It’s the beginning to a Desi decade.

“Twenty years ago, Indian pop was weirdly exotic. Not so anymore. Today artists like Jay-Z and Missy Elliot sound “Indian” — and even Britney Spears has an Indian producer.

When Jay Sean burst on the music scene several years ago, he was labelled an Indian artist.

“I think of myself simply as an R&B artist,” the native Londoner tells Metro. “But just because you’re Indian, people put you in a pigeonhole, and it’s very hard to leave that pigeonhole.”

But Jay Sean — born Kamaljeet Singh Jhooti — has succeeded. His 2004 debut album sold two million copies; this year his U.S. debut single topped the Billboard Hot 100.

Slumdog Millionaire showed that Indian pop culture has crossover appeal.

“So many artists, like M.I.A., Timbaland and the Black-Eyed Peas use Indian music, but people didn’t know it was Indian until they watched Slumdog.”

Today Jay Sean lives in New York, but he often visits his parents’ home region of Punjab.

“India has all these musical events going on,” he says. “But the mainstream media doesn’t cover them. There are lots of great festivals with 80,000 kids listening to a concert, but nobody outside India hears about it.

“The funny thing is, the music isn’t that different,” he said.”

Reggae star Buju Banton optimistic despite drug charges

Posted by admin On December - 19 - 2009

Sad day for reggae music..

First Kobe
Then Tiger
NOW Buju…what the F**K if going on here..

BY JACQUELINE CHARLES

jcharles@MiamiHerald.com

Jamaican reggae star Buju Banton agreed Wednesday to be transferred from Miami to Tampa, where he faces federal drug charges.

Banton, whose real name is Mark Anthony Myrie, is accused along with two others of trying to buy more than five kilograms of cocaine last week from an undercover law-enforcement officer in Sarasota. Banton was arrested Thursday at his home in Tamarac. The charges carry a maximum setence of life in prison, his lawyer said.

Wearing a beige jail jumpsuit and shackles, Banton, 36, sat expressionless in the front row of the Miami federal courtroom Wednesday morning, his trademark dreadlocks pulled back off his narrow face and rolled into a bundle.

Occasionally, he looked across the courtroom where, in the back row, his publicist and two members of the local Jamaican Consulate observed the proceedings.

The only time Banton spoke was when he uttered his real name and age, and confirmed to U.S. Magistrate Judge William Turnoff that he was indeed waiving his bail hearing in Miami to be transferred to Tampa.

“He’s a very spiritual person. He’s a very positive person,” his attorney, Herbert Erving Walker III, said about his mood. “He’s confident he’s going to be exonerated.”

Walker added that Banton, whose album Rasta Got Soul is nominated for the Grammy Reggae Album of the Year, is looking forward to “getting back to doing what he does, which is make music for the people of the world.”
